Volume
Performance with Jamal Sterrett (2024 - ongoing)
Volume explores ideas of belonging and connection between Britain and Jamaica through music, sound and movement. Journeying through Bruk Up, Dub and Soundsystem culture, DJ Ashley Holmes and performance artist Jamal Sterrett move through a subcultural world of the early 90s and 2000s Bruk Up dance style. Responding to soundscapes mixed by Holmes, Sterrett’s movements subvert traditional roots of Bruk Up, embodying the influences and iterations of popular music from Jamaica.
